A106 Midterm Project 1
Due date: Monday, October 1, 2018.
Project (30 pts):
Create a Microsoft Word document of 3-4 pages, on the theme of
your hobby. This can be your favorite TV show, movie, sport, or book,
or a video game, or something else such as knitting or oil painting
(as long as you're not an arts major).
Basic format specifications:
- line spacing between 1.15 and 1.4 points;
- add 6pt space after each paragraph and 0 before;
- use a 12-point font of your choice;
- no more than 1 inch borders on all sides of the page;
- most of the text should be aligned as justified, except for
special elements that need to centered (title, images, tables) or
aligned left (section titles);
- paragraphs should have a half-inch first line indentation except
for the first paragraph after the title and for the first paragraph
after the title in each section; do not use tabs for indentation;
- no paragraph should be longer than half a page;
- the document should not have grammar or spelling errors (use
Word's tools for this);
- color choices up to you, as long as the main text is in black and
everything is readable.
Document layout and content:
- The document should have a title, centered and in Heading 1
style. Your name should be below it, also centered.
- The document should contain at least 3 numbered sections, such as
"1. Introduction", "2. History of ...", "3. Personal
Experience". Their names should be in Title Case.
- Each section title (such as the above) should be placed on its own
line, left-aligned, and in a Heading 2 style, with no
indentation.
- Most sections should contain at least two paragraphs
- The document should have a footer that shows the page number in
the center, and a header containing the title on the left and your
name on the right, in a 10-point font and in italics.
- The document should contain two images, each of them no taller
that 3 inches, relevant to the subject. The images should be centered
and no wider than the document width (should not spill over into the
margins).
They should have a caption below them, also centered and in italics,
starting with "Figure 1. ...", "Figure 2. ...". The paragraph before
each image should contain one sentence explaining it and mentioning
the figure by name, such as "Figure 1 below shows ...". More images
are allowed (up to 4 total), as long as they follow the same
specifications.
- The document should contain a table with at least 4 rows and 3
columns, related to the paper's subject. The table should be centered
on the page and in a style that has the top line highlighted with a
non-white background and a visible border around all the cells. The
table should not be wider than the document size (should not go over
the document margins).
The first row should contain "Table 1" in the first cell, and the rest
of the cells merged, containing a caption for the table. The second
row should contain column labels such as "Event", "Year", etc., in
bold. The rest of the table should not be in bold.
The paragraph before the table should contain a sentence explaining
the presence of the table, also refering the table formally as "Table
1 ...".
- If you are citing any works, web sites, and so on, add a section
at the end called "References" where you list all of them, each on a
line, in a consistent style. The title References should be in the
same style as all the other section titles, except not numbered.
