Critical Thinking

In this homework you will explore everyday critical thinking, making an argument, debating a topic, and recognizing fallacies. 

Ex. 1. Reasoning (14 pts)

Write a short paper (2-3 pages) on “AI will be useful in [domain]”: choose the domain such as manufacturing, software development, military, etc.

• Rubric: make sure all the wheel of reasoning points are present in the paper. 
• Rebuttal: write a section in the paper up to one page of the total that argues the opposite of the point you made: how AI can be harmful in the domain that you chose. 
• Formatting guidelines: Normal page margins, title and author at the top, centered, on the same page as the text that followed (no title page). Numbered section titles, bold and left aligned. Page numbers at the bottom, centered. 11-pt font with up to 1.5 line spacing. 

Ex. 2 Fallacies (6 pts)

Identify a fallacy in political speeches, blog posts, commercials, stand-up comedy, etc. Post this in the dedicated discussion topic. 

Rubric:

• Make an original contribution (up to 3 pts.) along with a link to the source.
• Post responses to other people that you disagree with (1 pt. each, up to 2).
• Post a rebuttal to one of the responses to your contribution  (1 pt. each, up to 2).
