Homework 2
Due Date: Tuesday, September 6, 2016.
Ex. 1 Complete Lab 2 individually.
Ex. 2 This is a team homework. The name of your team mate
will be communicated to you.
This week you will work on a concept of a web site that you might
be asked to create for a company. Please read and/or watch the files
I310_03_webdesign.pptx and I310_03_webdesign.swf for some ideas about
the kind of design elements and aspects we are talking about.
The first thing to discuss and choose with your team mate is the
kind of company that you are creating this for (what services do they
provide? what are they manufacturing?) and what is the intended
audience of the page.
The goal is not to create a lot of content for it, but to figure
out what the structure of the web page would be and what choices you'd
make for the way it looks and why. What you need to turn in is a
mock-up of the web site in terms of a few html files and a
justification (a text file or readable document) explaining the
choices you've made.
Design and document the following aspects of the web site:
- The general structure of the web site, in terms of divisions of
the page, title, navigation. This should also be made clear in the
html files you submit. If you have a navigation menu, the menu items
should be visible and at least some of them functional (connected to
appropriate files).
- What kind of content should there be on your site? What would a
customer of the company look for when they access the site? How is the
content organized (the navigation menu could be one way, bigger sections
or themes could be another)?
- If you intend to have a logo on the page, you can either use
a stand-in, or just a label like "Logo goes here". You can keep the
structure that we started in Lab 2, or redesign the main page the way
you like.
- Choose and document a color scheme for the page and the fonts you
would be using. Explain the choices.
- What is the prominent element on the main page? If it's a logo,
either prepare a mock-up of the logo, or explain what the logo would
look like. What other elements would you have on the main page to
draw the reader in?
Submit: to Canvas all the files created for this homework,
both html and artwork, if that's the case.
